Painters apply paint, varnishes, lacquers, sealers, stains, etc. Painters also apply all types of wallpaper, vinyl wall fabrics and all types of coverings or coatings. Painters make all of the necessary preparations prior to application.

Drywall Finishers (also called Tapers) apply tape and joint compound to already installed drywall to prepare wall surfaces for painting or other finishing. Some Tapers apply textured surfaces to walls and ceilings with trowels, brushes, or spray guns.

Glaziers and Glassworkers are responsible for selecting, cutting, installing, replacing, and removing all types of glass, and perform a variety of related tasks. They build metal sash and moldings using aluminum or steel framing. At a construction site, Glaziers attach the formed metal moldings to the building. They finish the job by fitting in the glass, attaching face moldings, weather seals, or hardware, and adjusting door or window operation. Residential glazing involves work such as replacing glass in home windows; installing glass mirrors, shower doors, and bathtub enclosures; and fitting glass for tabletops and display cases. Glazing and Glasswork are separate apprenticeships dealing with either installation or fabrication aspects of the job.

Sign and Display Workers design, construct, paint, and erect signage and tradeshow eshibits made of metal, vinyl, glass, wood, neon, and plastic. Apprentices choose to specialize in graphic design, fabrication, silk screening, or installation.

Floor Coverers install carpet, sheet vinyl, composition tile, laminate, and some hardwood flooring.
