Contractor

An individual or company licensed to perform certain types of construction activities that enters into a contract for construction of a building or part of a building.  Types of contractors include:

• General Contractor–Responsible for the execution, supervision and overall coordination of a project.  Has primary responsibility for the work.  Usually hires specialty contractors to perform all specialty trades.
• Specialty Contractor–Licensed to perform specialty trades such as: electrical, roofing, plumbing etc. Click Here to learn who builds what.
• Subcontractor–A qualified subordinate contractor who works for the general contractor.  These can be other general or specialty contractors.
